8 May this year marks the historic 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. The Friends of Westminster Cathedral will be celebrating with an old-fashioned street party in the Cathedral Hall with a supper and a paid bar.
The Friends have the Melodic Belles to provide musical entertainment – a beautiful 3 piece 40’s and 50’s vocal harmony group. The Belles are guaranteed to have you swinging and shooping along to the sounds of The Andrews Sisters, Vera Lynn and more. The Belles have entertained the crowds at RAF Halton, The Savoy and Cowdray Hall Estate.
The hall will be decked in bunting with Union Jacks on hand; lashings of gingerand Spitfire beer (what else), sandwiches, hot pies, jelly and custard. The Friends anticipate a good crowd for their VE Day Party so please do book early. A minute’s silence led by Canon Christopher Tuckwell will be held in memory of the fallen and there will be a recording of Churchill’s historic speech to the nation.Top
