As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy to promote positive overall well-being within our footprint for employees and residents, The Northbank BID champions mental health well-being.
Supporting organisations and individuals to improve in these four areas has been proven to lead to happier and healthier teams and individuals, while also improving productivity, engagement and performance. This is especially the case when the interventions and well-being strategies have been tailored to organisations’ unique cultures and to individuals’ needs. See more on the impacts below.
The BID has run Suicide Intervention and Prevention workshops for our businesses due to the rise in suicides and suicide attempts that take place on our neighbouring bridges. It was important for those who attended to attain the key information provided by Chris Morgan and implement that amongst their staff such as finding new ways to approach a member of staff or the public and being shown the specific trigger signs that we should be aware of.
Kings College London Mental Health Research
London HQ commissioned a piece of work with Kings College London in which we researched the scale and impact of mental ill health in the workplace and how it has grown rapidly in recent years, with seminal reports such as the Stevenson/ Farmer review of mental health and employers shedding light on the experiences of employees. Around 15 per cent of people at work have symptoms of an existing mental health condition – as well as the implications for their employers: recent estimates put the costs of poor mental health to employers in the United Kingdom at £42-45 billion per year.
