To celebrate its sponsorship of the V&A’s exhibition, Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up (16 June – 4 November), Grosvenor are honouring Frida Kahlo from this month on! One of the most recognised female artists of the twentieth century, she endured a life of trauma turning it into art. It is this artwork that will be used as the inspiration for a range of exclusive new products across retailers in Belgravia for the area’s annual Belgravia in Bloom festival.
Running from 19th – 26th May and coinciding with the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show, Belgravia’s floral festival will take inspiration from Kahlo’s beautiful buds. Over 50 retailers across Elizabeth Street, Motcomb Street, Pimlico Road and Eccleston Yards will be creating floral displays and installations with a competition to award the best floral displays, judged by RHS judges with a chance for the public to vote on social media for their favourite one. Walking maps for the event will also be available from all local retailers with details and locations.
This wonderful event will also mark the official opening of Frida’s Parlour, an interactive Kahlo-inspired installation on Elizabeth Street, featuring an inclusive, social space echoing the iconic Blue House/Casa Azul, her famous Mexico City residence. This location will host a series of creative workshops from floral headdress making, to self portraiture! There will even be plenty of insta-ready backdrops to pose before.
A visit to Eccleston Yards, a new hub for independent and creative businesses, will mean viewing a larger-than-life homage to the artist as a vibrant mural will show a headdress adorned with live Mexican-style exotic flowers.
Retailers creating products and experiences especially for the occasion include Beulah, Rococo Chocolates, DONNA IDA, Neill Strain Floral Couture, Howe at 36 Bourne Street and plenty more.
