Continuing with the theme of ‘Connections: people and places’ the Design District showcases the role that design plays in Victoria & Westminster. Different forms of design can be seen in a variety of events and activities, brought to you by an array of local businesses. The Victoria Connections Design District seeks to show visitors how excellence in design is now part of the new landscape of Victoria & Westminster- places with a fascinating history and an exciting future. Design, in all its forms, is something that binds the areas together – its people, its historic buildings and its new developments.
An exhibition by new experimental concept store 50m with experimental artist Ying Chang showcases the blending lines between art & design. While one of the area’s largest landowners, Landsec, are bringing Victoria’s history to life with a ‘Then & Now’ tour. Visitors to the Apollo Theatre get a sneak peek behind the doors of this iconic theatre and its award winning musical WICKED with tours and talks of the theatre and an exhibition of costumes from Victoria’s longest-running musical.
This year the District brings to the area its first ever Festival Commission, Life Labyrinth, with pattern duo PATTERNITY. Life Labyrinth takes inspiration from the principles of resonance and flow – harmonising the senses and invoking positive thoughts and experiences in the world. Through the power of pattern, movement, sound and nature, the installation will invite visitors to meditate upon and enjoy the Piazza at their own pace immersing themselves in the sacred space, amidst the hustle and bustle of London life.
